Validation of experience-based learning (VAE)

PLEASE NOTE!

The practice of awarding the Diplôme National d’Études Supérieures Musicales (DNESM) and the Diplôme National d’Études Supérieures Chorégraphiques (DNESC) by VAE was terminated at the end of the 2010-11 academic year.

Procedures for obtaining the new diplomas (undergraduate and master’s level diplomas) by VAE, including application forms and detailed regulations are under preparation and will be announced on our website in the near future.

CONDITIONS OF ACCESS

The involvement in salaried, unsalaried or voluntary activity during an overall but not necessarily uninterrupted period of at least three years (36 months) can give access to VAE.

This activity must correspond, in whole or in part to the activity of holders of the diploma requested, as described in the detailed regulations which are posted on the website.
Consequently it is the candidate’s responsibility to attach the appropriate documents (see list at the end of the application form) indicating the duration, nature and relevance of the activity with the content of diploma which is being requested.

Important!

An activity is defined as being voluntary in circumstances where someone willing undertakes to act without remuneration in a non-professional context unconnected with outside his or her family on behalf of an officially declared association or a public service.

VAE PROCEDURE

Validation of Experience-Based Learning (VAE) procedure takes place in two stages:

1 – Feasibility study
The information and in the application (which will be available on the CNSMDL website in the near future) and the supporting documents are examined by the Lyon CNSMD, who then decide on the feasibility of the request.
If this is the case, the candidate is informed by post is within two months of the reception of the application by the appropriate department. The candidate must then register for the validation process.

2 – Validation of experience-based learning
The candidate then fills in a second form, called the validation application (which will also be downloadable from the CNSMDL website). This requires the candidate to give a precise description of his or her activities, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, techniques acquired and applied, etc.
The validation decision is taken by a panel composed of qualified representatives of the professions concerned after they have examined the application, interviewed the candidate and, if necessary, observed the candidate in a professional situation.

The panel can award the diploma in whole or in part. In the case of a partial validation, they identify the knowledge and skills which will need to be re-examined at a future date.
